Monday marks the opening of the Illinois application window for dispensaries and cultivation centers in Illinois. But by noon on the first day, not a single application had been filed.
The applications require intense disclosure of financing, security measures and proposed plans for building out facilities. There are only 22 available licenses for cultivation centers and 60 for dispensaries, and competition will be fierce. Applications will receive a score on a point system, with licenses going to the highest-ranking businesses.
The state of Illinois saw more than 2,000 applications for patient licenses in the first week of September. Applications for patients with last names starting with A through L are currently being open for acceptance; patients with last names M through Z can apply starting in November.
