Marijuana Comes to Minnesota

This week Minnesota is expected to become the 22nd state (plus D.C.) to create a medical marijuana program. However, the system will be very different and much more restrictive than the other programs already in existence around the country.

The bill will only allow for marijuana to be used in oil, pill, or vapor form. No patients will be allowed to smoke their medicine. The bill will also limit the number of dispensaries to eight, and manufacturers to two. In the coming weeks, Governor Mark Dayton will sign the legislation into law. Opening up a market filled with infused products only.

“It has been led by parents, who deeply love their children, are anguished by their pain and insist their government try to help them. As a father and grandfather, I both understand and admire their devotion.” said Dayton in a prepared statement.

Under the proposed law, only patients with the following conditions will be considered:

– AIDS
– ALS
– Cancer
– Crohn’s disease
– Glaucoma
– MS
– Seizures
– Tourette’s
– Terminal illnesses with less than a year of life expectancy
Consultants, entrepreneurs, lobbyists, and patients are now all anxiously looking to Florida, the state most likely to pass medical marijuana legislation next and become state number 23.
