Good afternoon Andrea, my name is Lisa and my First Nation is looking at growing and processing industrial hemp. I immediately stopped when I read that you have received your masters of science in hemp in Winnipeg Manitoba as we are from Ontario. As you may be aware with the Forest Industry here in Canada they are trying to make alliances with the First Nations.
When they harvest they need to spray or choose to spray so that they maximize there trees specific to jack pine and spruce killing the birch and poplar species. Now my son Cody came up with a possible solution that could benefit both forest and first nation parties. Since Forest company does not plant until the third year this would make that land available for hemp growing and this would omit the use of chemical spraying as hemp usually fights off weeds. Then in that third year forest company can plant their preference without dealing with competing vegetation.
Now we have a call out for proposals with a due date of August 20, 2020 and hope that you are eager to assist us. Our goal is to grow hemp and process it for industrial uses such as housing which has and continues to be First Nations struggles.
I know this can be a very successful business and also our first nation struggles with being self sustainable regarding employment. We are finally receiving revenues through impact benefit agreements and resource revenue sharing so we are able to hire consultants like yourself to help make economic development possible here in our First Nation.
I look forward in hearing from you and I know the time line is a crunch but we are interested with going ahead and possible submitting a preliminary proposal where as they may grant an extension. I believe there has been nothing like this proposed where forest company and first nation benefit by working side by side- win-win situation.
I can be contacted by phone: 705-221-3451 or 705-864-0174 ext 225 or by email at lisa_vanbuskirk@hotmail.com or landsandresources@bhfn.ca where I am the manager of this department. I am very excited about the potential aspect of providing sustainability for our First Nation and gaining new partnerships with industry.
Look forward in hearing from you.
Thanks
